INCI dinci/label faff

I’ve been having Fun With Inci Names; essentially the Latin Wot Is The New Esperanto of Labelling; most of it is utter nonsense (Sodium Babassuate?!) but after doing a bit of hunt-and-seek around other people’s sites to figure out how the naming works and checking several online INCI files (a few of which I downloaded as well just in case), and I think I’ve got the hang of it.  As a result I created a INCI Batch Name document with all the “intended for sale” batches which have worked to date.  I’ll add more as I go along, and it should mean all I need to do in order to create new labels is copy and paste text into the whole.  Designing a website and keeping continuity while doing so shouldn’t be difficult either.

As a matter of fact, doing labels for me is ridiculously easy.  Microsoft Publisher is incredibly easy to use, and it took me about a half hour to create a label I liked.  I’ve just expanded on the label as I’ve now figured out my final sizes for bars from now on, and so the label is now more “universally sized” and doesn’t need changing each time.  It took about three clicks to sort that out.  I don’t even have to fuss for hours trying to align labels and doing tonnes of waste in the process; I have self-adhesive paper that I cut to suit.  No faff, no headaches.

I’d been putting off the label bit thinking it would be more trouble, but done, sorted, and even the whole INCI/allergen thing hasn’t freaked me as much as I thought it would.

Granted, the chances of me selling in three months’ time are exceedingly slim; however friends are asking for soaps and I figure it’s good practice to do everything as if I was handling sales.  It means I have time to make proper procedure a habit.

Now if I could just finish this current croaped module…
